Hurricane Wind Water

Storm damage, found and fixed.

Hurricanes and summer thunderstorms can loosen a roof without any damage you notice from the driveway.

Some signs show from the ground: shingles in the yard, a limb on the roof or flashing hanging loose.

Use binoculars from the ground if you like, but never climb onto a roof after a storm.

We go up and check the roof so you stay safely on the ground.

We look for lifted, creased or missing shingles, exposed underlayment, dented vents and limb punctures.

Pulled-loose flashing and new ceiling stains count too, since wind-driven rain gets in at the weak points.

You get photos of every damaged area, so you can see what we see.

If damage is open to the rain, ask us about a temporary tarp or dry-in until the repair can be done.

Your options

What kind of damage is it?

Storms damage roofs in three main ways, and each one is repaired differently.

Wind lifts and tears shingles, falling limbs puncture them, and water finds the openings.

Florida’s 25 percent rule can come into play when a large share of one roof section is damaged.

We show you photos of each damaged area, and you can ask us about your claim.

  • Wind damageLifted, creased or missing shingles, torn flashing and loosened ridge caps.
  • Impact damagePunctures from fallen limbs, dents in vents and metal, and cracked or broken shingles.
  • Water intrusionNew ceiling stains, damp attic insulation or wet decking after wind-driven rain got in.
Worth knowing

The Atlantic hurricane season lasts from June 1 to November 30, so the roof is worth a look before June.

Questions Straight answers

Questions about storm damage?

Still unsure? Call (813) 461-0751, Monday to Friday 9 to 5, and ask Omar.

How can I tell if a storm damaged my roof?

From the ground, look for shingles in the yard, a limb on the roof, flashing hanging loose or dents in vents.

Inside, look for new ceiling stains. Please do not climb up. Call us and we check the roof for you.

Can you put a tarp on my roof?

Ask us. Call (813) 461-0751 and describe the damage.

We go over what a temporary tarp or dry-in would involve for your roof, and what comes after it.

Can you help with my insurance claim?

Ask us about your claim when you call (813) 461-0751.

We show you photos of the damage we find, and you call your insurer to start or follow up on the claim.

What is the 25 percent rule in Florida?

When 25 percent or more of a roof section is repaired or replaced, the whole section may have to meet current code.

A 2022 state law exempts roofs already built to the 2007 Florida Building Code or later.

Ask us how it applies to your roof.
