Architectural 3-tab Colors

Shingles that fit the house and the code.

Shingles come in two main types, architectural and 3-tab, and the choice shapes how the roof looks.

Architectural shingles are laminated and dimensional. 3-tab shingles are flat and uniform.

A Google reviewer pointed to the great color selection and extra peel-and-stick underlayment on a re-roof.

Shingles carry wind ratings, so the rating is worth asking about before you pick a product.

Dark streaks from algae are common on humid Gulf Coast roofs, and algae-resistant granules exist for them.

Florida code allows asphalt shingles only on roofs pitched 2:12 or steeper.

From 2:12 up to 4:12, the code also calls for a double layer of underlayment.

Repairs and full shingle re-roofs both start with a free inspection and photos of what we find.

Your options

3-tab or architectural?

3-tab shingles are flat and uniform, with a simple, even look across the roof.

Architectural shingles are laminated, which gives the roof depth and shadow lines.

Wind ratings differ from one shingle to the next, so ask what rating the product on your roof carries.

We lay out the choices on your roof and give you an honest pick.

  • 3-tabA flat, uniform shingle with a plain, even look across the whole roof.
  • ArchitecturalLaminated, dimensional shingles with depth and shadow lines. Ask about colors and wind ratings.
  • Shingle repairLifted, creased or missing shingles and loose flashing, fixed without replacing the whole roof.
Worth knowing

Florida sun and heat wear down shingle roofs: granules loosen, sealant dries out and rubber pipe boots crack.

Questions Straight answers

Questions about shingle roofing?

Still unsure? Call (813) 461-0751, Monday to Friday 9 to 5, and ask Omar.

What is the difference between 3-tab and architectural shingles?

3-tab shingles are flat and uniform.

Architectural shingles are laminated, so they have more depth and a dimensional look.

Both are asphalt shingles. Ask us about colors and wind ratings for the products that fit your roof.

Can I put shingles on a low-slope roof?

Florida code allows shingles only on slopes of 2:12 or steeper, and from 2:12 up to 4:12 it requires a double layer of underlayment.

A flatter roof needs a low-slope system instead. We check the pitch during the inspection.

What are the dark streaks on my shingles?

Often it is algae, which is common on humid Gulf Coast roofs.

Algae-resistant granules are made to resist those streaks.

Ask us whether they suit your roof, and call (813) 461-0751 for a free inspection.

Do you repair shingles or only replace roofs?

Both.

Lifted, creased or missing shingles, cracked pipe boots and loose flashing can be repaired, and worn-out roofs get a full re-roof.

A free inspection tells you which one your roof needs, with photos.
